It’s been over a week since I attended the Devon and Somerset Law Society Awards where I received Highly Commended in the Leader of the Year category.
It goes without saying that it was such a proud moment for me personally at a fantastic event held in an inspirational venue. Exeter Cathedral looked absolutely beautiful that evening.
It is also important to highlight that I am very much part of a team, not only in the area of Public Law at the Plymouth office but also within a firm that prides itself on doing things differently to the traditional high street law firm. It was therefore less of a surprise to me that we won Law Firm of the Year (1 to 10 Partners)!
Following the excitement of the evening, I have been reflecting back on the awards. I do know that the last year has been a particularly challenging year for all of us that work in child protection, with more children than ever being the subject of care proceedings and being placed in foster care. In Plymouth, we have a team of seven able to respond quickly to provide legal representation to parents and children who find themselves subject to court proceedings brought by Social Services.
Given the work we do, I am also well aware of the need to ensure team members all achieve a work life balance so we can provide what I hope is an excellent service to our vulnerable clients as well as ensuring that we continue to meet the challenges of this area of law with energy and determination.
In addition, the firm invests time and money in the wellbeing of employees, recognising the importance this has in the modern working world and the need for us all to look after our mental and physical health.
For me, that’s about doing my bit to help ensure I am part of a team where people feel valued, supported and understand their role in a firm that continues to win awards and accolades.
