These are my top three tips on how you can get the best out of your divorce lawyer during a divorce case.
- Be honest and clear with your lawyer: It’s essential to be upfront with your lawyer and make sure they have everything they need. They can only help you if they have the full information about your situation. Don’t keep things back, even if you feel embarrassed. If you are honest in your communications with your lawyer from the start and provide them with all the necessary details regarding your case, then you are more likely to get the outcome you want.
- Respond to your lawyer promptly: Divorce cases often involve time-sensitive legal issues that require immediate attention. Respond to your lawyer’s enquiries and requests as soon as possible to help them build the strongest case possible and avoid them having to follow up with you for instructions as this can increase your legal costs. Provide your lawyer with all the documents and evidence that are related to your case. This includes financial statements, bank statements, tax returns, and other legal documents. Sometimes this can seem overwhelming but if you respond promptly you will avoid things building up.
- Understand the legal process: It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the legal process involved in divorce.
