Q & A with Anne Shears
- Who do you support?
- What do you do?
I am a Trustee for Effervescent.
- What do they do?
Effervescent is an organisation that researches the impact of arts on individuals and devises new ways to make those impacts stronger. The main body of work is around programmes of work, services, or experiences which address unmet needs in client groups and social realm organisations.
Examples of groups that the company has worked with are young carers and children who have suffered child exploitation.
- Why did you get involved?
I support the organisation as I have witnessed the work that is done with groups of children for which there is no other, or little support. There are young people who have worked with Effervescent who have gone on to undertake Arts degrees and others who have simply been able to meet others going through similar struggles to their own. I am very proud to work with them and believe that the work that is done can change the lives of young people.
- Any other volunteering?
I recently became a Director at Family Foraging Kitchen CIC. This is a community interest company specialising in foraging and educating people about wild food, working with children and people on low incomes and living in poverty. I am very proud to now be part of this locally based company especially at this very exciting time when we hope to be able to grow and reach more people.
