As part of our Everyday Bravery series, we asked eight people to share their personal stories of courage. Here, independent financial advisor Jono shares his story of everyday bravery.
When people hear the word brave they may think of a dramatic action, like someone saving a child from a moving vehicle. But for Jono, everyday bravery means taking small steps forward in your own life to get you to where you want to go.
Jono initially trained to be a lawyer, but after talking with his wife, he realised that it didn’t make him happy and continuing for decades in a job that didn’t work for him didn’t make sense. He timed leaving his career with paternity leave after the birth of his son. During this period, he discovered what it really was that made him tick.
So for Jono, his everyday bravery was all about not taking the easy option of going back to the law. Making this change in his life not just for himself but for his family, so he could be a more content husband – and a more present father.
The Family Law Company’s Everyday Bravery campaign is our way of honouring the acts of bravery that people demonstrate in their daily lives. Those who confront their worries, who will always step up to help others no matter what they are dealing with themselves, those who encourage others by their own resilience. In the stories we’ve heard, one recurring thread is the benefit of taking small, measures to overcome obstacles.
By sharing these inspiring stories, our campaign aims to recognise and inspire acts of everyday bravery in our communities. You can nominate someone you know who demonstrates this courage and encourages others to embrace their own bravery. Nominate someone brave today: Everyday Bravery – The Family Law Co
