I was proud to be a finalist in the 2019 Devon and Somerset Legal Society Awards for ‘Solicitor of the Year’.
Being nominated in the first place was testament to the work I do as Team Leader of the Domestic Violence and Children team, and to the expertise and experience I try to share with the people I work with. And then to be shortlisted was an honour – particularly because there was an increase in the number of entries this year.
For Solicitor of the Year, the judges wanted someone who had received ‘particular recognition for their professional work and/or their work in their community.’ They were looking for solicitors who had achieved success within their organisation; worked on ground-breaking law and had a positive impact on their organisation and colleagues. It goes without saying that evidence of great client care, teamworking and professional respect were also being judged.
Words cannot describe how happy I was when I won the award. When my name was announced as the winner, I remember time just standing still. Being recognised for my expertise and experience amongst the legal community in Devon and Somerset, my role as team leader as well as the work I do within the community was overwhelming.
Just before my award was announced, The Family Law Company had been announced as Law Firm of the Year (1-10 Partners) for 2019. Together with my award, it rounded off what was a very successful evening for all of us.
I wouldn’t have even been nominated if it wasn’t for the support of all of those in the team here, so I owe a huge thanks to everyone who made this possible and made winning the Solicitor of the Year Award one of the greatest and proudest achievements in my life.
