We’re delighted to announce the appointment of a new lawyer as lockdown eases, adding additional capacity for a vital area of family law.
Chartered Legal Executive Gemma Rowe joins the team based at Balliol House in Southernhay, Exeter to specialise in cases involving children and domestic abuse.
Gemma, from Tiverton, has over 15 years of experience in law. Her interest in the sector came about after she took an A level in Law alongside Business Studies. Starting as a trainee legal secretary, Gemma went on to become a paralegal whilst undertaking distance learning with IlEx (now CILEx). She qualified as a lawyer in 2012.
Throughout her career she worked within civil litigation undertaking personal injury work, gaining considerable experience in that field. Gemma’s move into family law came after she decided she wanted a new challenge which would utilise skills she has honed, but in a different area of law. She explained:
“Within civil litigation my specialisation was in cases involving head and brain injuries, and children cases – meaning I was involved closely with clients in challenging circumstances.
“Although family law is very different to litigation, many of the principles are the same, such as being able to understand and empathise with a client’s situation and getting the best result possible for them.”
Gemma was familiar with The Family Law Company through the Devon branch of CILEx and when the opportunity arose, she knew it was the right time and the right company. Now, with lockdown easing, she has made the move from working at home through lockdown for one company to working in a new office with new colleagues.
Senior Associate Lawyer Gemma Sparks who is Gemma’s new team leader, said: “From knowing Gemma through the Devon branch of CILEx we were already very aware of her friendly and approachable manner. She will provide a compassionate and professional service to all her clients, which fits perfectly with the ethos of the company. We’re delighted to welcome her to the team.”
