Each month we are featuring one of our solicitors or chartered executives. We feel strongly that our clients should be matched with the right lawyer, so this is one way of finding out a little more about our team.

Our lawyer of the month is Sasha Walton. Sasha is based at our Plymouth office.

  1. What is your job title?

Solicitor in the Divorce and Finance team.

  1. How long have you been at The Family Law Company?

I joined in November 2016.

  1. How did you come to be at TFLC?

I wanted to work in family law in Plymouth, and I could see that The Family Law Company was the right firm for me. It is a friendly and nurturing environment with a well-respected team, where I could see that I would be happy.

  1. What inspired you to go into family law?

In family law you work closely with people and help them navigate their way out of what is often a horrible situation. For most people, getting divorced is one of the saddest, most stressful times of their lives. I find it rewarding that I can make them feel better during that time by helping them to resolve their legal ties to their partner and sort out their financial matters.

  1. Describe your specialism/s

I specialise in resolving the finances between couples at the end of a relationship. In particular, I have a lot of experience helping military personnel or their partners.

  1. What would you say are your key strengths as a family lawyer?

I am very good at listening and unpacking information. People often do not know where to begin when they go and see a lawyer. Although lawyers are not counsellors, we need to be sympathetic to emotional issues. My clients often tell me that they feel comfortable talking to me about their relationship breakdown and the complex emotions that can impact on how they want to resolve matters, which is incredibly important for them.

  1. What is the achievement you are most proud of in your job?

Cases where a lot of hard work and preparation have really paid off and a difference is made are always really satisfying.

  1. Why do you think TFLC is different from other family lawyers?

As family law is the only area of law we deal with, all the staff share the same passion and ethos. It’s an energising place to work.

  1. Are there any related volunteering roles you undertake?

Not at the moment. I have just returned from maternity leave and at present I am focussing on my work and spending all my free time with my young son.

  1. What do you do to relax?

I like to get out in the countryside and enjoy the beautiful place in which we live.
