National Volunteers’ Week 2017 runs from the 1st to the 7th June. The annual event celebrates the difference volunteers make to every community across the country.

Here at The Family Law Company, we feel passionate about giving back to our communities.

Q & A with Grace Bradley

  • Who do you support?

Southernhay Contact Centre

  • What do you do?

I work as part of a team of volunteers at the centre to facilitate, organise and manage supported contact between non-resident parents and their children.

  • What do they do?

The SCC is an accredited contact centre run by a charity committed to supported contact between parents and their children.

  • Why did you get involved?

Volunteering is very rewarding: you are there for the benefit of the children for their relationship with the parent. The centre is a unique and valuable contact resource in Exeter, which only operates due to the unpaid committed support of its volunteers and coordinator.

Its role has become even more pivotal of late: SCC is now the only contact centre in Exeter at all with LHCC having closed, so its survival is even more essential.

Volunteering there gives me greater understanding of how to support clients when dealing with contact arrangements.
